What is Integrative Psychotherapy?
Integrative Psychotherapy is when a psychotherapist uses different types of therapy tools, exercises and techniques to successfully help their client move forward more positively with their life. Using a range of therapy tools can often be more powerful and effective than using a single therapeutic approach.
Why do I offer Integrative Psychotherapy?
You are unique! So, the therapy you receive should be unique to you and your needs.
Working together in a flexible and holistic way, I take into account not only your mental and emotional health (mind) but your physical health (body) and your spirit. You can learn different tools and techniques to empower you to explore and more effectively cope with your problems. Helping you let go of anything in your past or fear of the future that is holding you back. This can lead to you feeling more content in the present moment, whilst looking forward to your future with hope and joy.
My ‘therapeutic toolbox’
Below are some of the tools in my ‘therapeutic toolbox’, I’m always adding to this list so it may not be up to date.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – helps you manage problems by changing the unhelpful ways you think and behave. Find out more here.
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) – helps you to understand and accept your difficult feelings, learn skills to manage these feelings, and make positive changes in your life. Find out more here.
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) – is a technique recommended for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by NICE and can also be used to treat other issue such as anxiety, phobias, and weight management. Find out more here.
- Hypnotherapy – uses hypnosis (a state of focused concentration, where you are less aware of your surroundings) to help treat certain mental and physical health conditions, as well as change habits or phobias. Your therapist makes suggestions that encourage you to move away from unhelpful beliefs or habits (that you want to change) towards more helpful ones. Find out more here.
- Mindfulness – is about becoming more aware and accepting of your present or in the moment thoughts, feelings and behaviours, without judging yourself. Mindfulness can include breathwork, relaxation techniques and meditation. Find out more here.
- Person-centred counselling - this is were you use your own strengths and insight about yourself for personal growth and to improve relationships. Find out more here.
- Psychodynamic therapy – exploring how your unconscious thoughts may be affecting how you act. Find out more here.
- Transformatioanl Coaching – helps you explore and let go of any judgements or assumptions that are keeping you stuck, making space for you to create new possibilities for how you think, feel and behave. Find out about coaching here.

What happens in therapy?
Therapy gives you a safe non-judgemental space to offload your worries and concerns, and to openly explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It gives you the space to become more self-aware, accept where you are at in this moment, and let go of anything which is no longer helpful to you. You have time to connect and really hear that deeper wiser part of yourself, rather than the louder fearful insecure part, giving you space to rediscover how resilient and strong you are.
We will have conversations, and through these I will help you understand how and why you react emotionally, physically, behaviourally, and socially to different things in your life. I will share how your psychological system works (how your mind works), and how what you think directly influences how you feel, which affects how you behave. You will learn how your past influences your present and how you feel about your future.
I use metaphors, stories, images, videos, games, challenges to help you understand and hopefully become more comfortable with your uncomfortable feelings. I can give you tools and techniques to help you manage your uncomfortable feelings on a daily basis or help you relax and let go of stress. But more importantly I point you back home, to your own wisdom, your resilience and security. I shine a light on how you already have the answers to many of your questions or fears, and how these answers show up in different ways depending on where your thinking is at in the moment. Helping you see yourself in a new light is a game changer.
We will also review your progress, see what is working and what isn’t, then adapt and change if necessary.
Who can have Integrative Psychotherapy?
I work with young people aged 8 and up, families, and individuals.
I also use Integrative Pscyhotherapy when working with groups and in schools.
If you are a parent/guardian of a young person I’m working with, I also offer you additional support as this can be vital for you to more effectively help your child. This support can be in the form of emails, parent only review sessions, or parent/child sessions. I am finding that more parents need this support as they are often overwhelmed and sometimes frustrated trying to help their child. However, they have not even considered that they, as parents, also need help as they are so focused on helping their child. From both personal and professional experience, I know that when parents feel less overwhelmed or frustrated, they are better able to cope with whatever support their child needs from them.
I also have a free Facebook Group called The Overwhelmed Parent to support parents and help them move positively on from overwhelm. Please do join if you feel it may help you.
